How do you sign the letter Z in BSL?

Passive hand open, palm up. Place the flat of your dominant hand, on its edge, into the passive palm. No movement. Z is the 26th letter of the two-handed BSL alphabet.

The sign, demonstrated on video by a Deaf teacher.

Z has no link to the shape of the letter: a flat hand set on its edge in the palm. Compare with H, the same flat hand — but H sweeps, Z stays still.

You will fingerspell Z in names like Zara, Zachary and Zoe and places like Zennor. Practise it next to Y, its neighbours in the alphabet.
