How do you sign the letter Y in BSL?
Passive hand open, palm towards you, thumb apart. With your dominant index finger, touch the web between the passive thumb and index finger. No movement. Y is the 25th letter of the two-handed BSL alphabet.
Y sits in the fork between thumb and index — the fork of the printed letter. It ends many names, so you will sign it as a last letter far more often than a first.
You will fingerspell Y in names like Yusuf, Yasmin and Yvonne and places like York, Yeovil and Yarmouth. Practise it next to X and Z, its neighbours in the alphabet.
