How do you sign the letter H in BSL?

Passive hand open, palm up. Brush the flat of your dominant hand across the passive palm, from the wrist towards the fingers. One of the two BSL letters with a movement. H is the 8th letter of the two-handed BSL alphabet.

The sign, demonstrated on video by a Deaf teacher.

H is one of the two letters with movement (J is the other). It is the sweep that makes it an H — a flat hand simply resting on the palm is not a letter.

You will fingerspell H in names like Harry, Hannah and Henry and places like Hull, Hastings and Harrogate. Practise it next to G and I, its neighbours in the alphabet.
